About Me
So, my name is Drew Fustin.
Here are my (mostly) unedited thoughts on life. I want to write all this with an eye on seeing where God is moving all around me. He’s everywhere, really, and I’d love to be able to share how I see Him at work. That’s my intention, and hopefully I’m sticking to it.
I’m currently working towards my Ph.D. in physics at the University of Chicago — as part of the COUPP (Chicagoland Observatory for Underground Particle Physics) experiment, where my research involves searching for dark matter in the form of WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) using bubble chambers, of all things. I split my time between the KICP (Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics) at the U of C and Fermilab (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory). During my tenure at the U of C, I took a year and a half detour to work as a stock options trader with the Susquehanna International Group here in Chicago. Before coming to Chicago, I was a physics, mathematics, and astronomy student at Drake University.
I’m currently on staff at the Hyde Park Vineyard Church as the worship coordinator, heading up the music ministry from Sunday services to small groups. This is the latest step in a sojourn through the Vineyards in the greater Chicago area. Prior to my current position, I went to the Vineyard Christian Church of Evanston, where I was primarily involved with the Greenhouse service in the evenings as a worship leader and small group leader. Before my year-long exile to the north-side, I helped plant the Near West Vineyard Church in the Near West neighborhood of Chicago, a church plant of the Hyde Park Vineyard. I served as a worship leader and occasional teacher/preacher at Near West and was a small group leader and singles’ ministry overseer at Hyde Park. While at Near West, I was volunteer staff with the multi-ethnic InterVarsity chapter at the University of Illinois at Chicago, mostly leading a small group and discipling some guys there. I’m also a graduate of the Vineyard’s ministry training program, the Vineyard Leadership Institute.
I’d love for God to give me the opportunity to one day leave this current situation, perhaps this city (though I love it), and plant a church to help advance His Kingdom.
I enjoy music, nature, sports (go Patriots!), puns, movies, trivia, travel, and the changing seasons. Check it.
